Fedora Panama - extra fine grade 14 llano weave (rollable)

Product Description

A Panama hat for the connoisseur. We have limited availability of this beautiful extra fine, grade 14, llano weave Panama hat. The weave is extra fine, taking the best weavers weeks to complete. To find a comparable quality hat you could easily  spend several hundred pounds. This classic, fedora style panama hat can be rolled for travelling.

We do only receive this quality in very limited quantities, but we are starting an apprenticeship training scheme in Ecuador to train young weavers which will increase both our capacity and the quality of hats, so we hope to have more extra fine Panamas in the future. At present, we do normally have stock of every size, but if we have run out of your size we would be happy to put you on a waiting list for our next delivery.

By working directly with the co-operative of women weavers, we not only ensure that they receive a high price for their work but, by cutting out the seven middlemen who normally participate in the panama supply chain, we are able to get the panama hats direct to you at a very good price! Our aim is to create constant employment for our 400 weavers throughout the year and this also keeps our retail prices low. If you have any questions, please phone our shop at 01335 300003.

Pachacuti: Certified Fair Trade

Pachacuti is the world’s first company to be certified to carry the World Fair Trade Organization’s (WFTO) new Fair Trade label. This is the first audited certification which verifies that an entire supply chain is following fair trade principles and sustainable environmental practices.

All of Pachacuti’s products delivered commencing in 2010 will have a label stating:

Why Pachacuti?

Pachacuti is the UK’s only Fair Trade hat specialist, working directly with women's co-operatives in Ecuador. The panama hat supply chain has traditionally been controlled by middlemen, known as ‘perros’ (dogs in Spanish) due to their unscrupulous purchasing methods and weavers typically receiving a very low price for their skills. With a Pachacuti panama, the women carry out the entire production process from weaving to finishing and thus retain far more of the final value of the hat.
