PANAMAS for Retail
Welcome
to Pachacuti's range of Men's Panama Hats for retail . This
range includes the most popular styles of panama hat which are offered
in a number of different grades and weaves. Many of these hats may
be rolled and a hat box is also available for storage during traveling.
All of our panamas are fairly traded direct from the producers in the mountains around the city of Cuenca in southern Ecuador where we have been working with hat producers since 1993. Since 2002 we have been supporting a women's association representing over 300 weavers. The association aims to allow the weavers access to the whole production process enabling them to retain more of the profit in the sale of the finished hat. The association also supports the weavers by providing education, training in new weaving techniques and regular meetings for advice offering a forum for workers to voice concerns and make suggestions.
Pachacuti's weavers receive excellent remuneration for their skills which helps to keep the panama weaving tradition alive in a small, rural community.Pachacuti pays the pensions for elderly weavers and also contributes to a fund for medical and funeral costs. Furthermore, the extra income generated by the sale of Pachacuti's panama hats has been used to buy land for a grocery store which will be built in order to improve levels of nutrition within the community.
All hats are provided with a hat band and in internal band.

THE "CHECKED" FEDORA
To
create these stylish interpretations of classic panama hats the
Paja Toquilla straw is dyed in a range of contrasting colours prior
to weaving. The coloured straw is then carefully woven to produce
an attractive pattern revealing the complexity of the weaving process.
